MEET YOUR COACH

AL NATRINS (he/him)

Hi, I'm Al! I hope you're doing well 🙏🖤🙌

I'm a colorful, animated, and neurodivergent 46-year-old with over 16 years of experience in training, teaching, and working within krav maga, self defence, martial arts, and health and fitness.

I'm not your typical Krav Maga or martial arts instructor by any stretch of the imagination. I bring a unique, easygoing, fun, and highly inclusive approach to teaching and training.

My speciality lies in helping people to keep safe, kick some ass, and feel great — and I absolutely love doing this!

I'm non-judgemental, open minded, and accepting. I am a proud LGBTQ+ advocate. I am supporter of other non-conformists and those who look alt or different.

I believe in allowing everyone to learn at their own pace and in a way that suits them best.  The student is in the driving seat and I am their passenger, helping them to navigate to wherever they want to go.

Al Natrins Resilience Krav Maga Coach
“Krav maga kicks ass!  It's great self-defence, I love teaching it, and most importantly, it has kept myself and my students safe from harm when we have had to rely on it!”

I completely understand what it takes to help people just like you to perform your best and feel great when training!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO LEARN?

Krav maga self defence is generally easy to learn and simple to perform.  Members will have built a firm foundation of tangible skills within the first twelve weeks of training, giving them a strong base with which to progress further.

While true mastery is life-long endeavour, with regular and committed training getting good can take less time than you think.

Most students of krav maga will be in a much better position to defend themselves after six to twelve months of training, and will only continue to get better with more time invested.

DO WE HAVE A GRADING SYSTEM?

Yes, at Resilience we base our teaching around the Krav Maga Global UK curriculum, so all of the material covered in training is coherent and organised.

Grades in krav maga are divided into Practioner Levels 1-5, Graduate Levels 1-5 (senior students and instructors), and Expert Levels 1-5 (extremely senior students, and national/international level instructors).

Members have the option to test their capabilites and grade every six to twelve months (for Practioner and Graduate Levels).

DO I NEED TO BE FIT TO START TRAINING?

Not at all, and by starting training with us you will already be improving on your physical fitness and conditioning - every session.

Don't worry about training seeming hard - this is perfectly normal and we all feel it to start off with.
We train to get fitter, we don't need to be fit to train!

We're all working at different levels regardless, training according to our goals, needs and capabilities.

We get there when we get there!

AM I TOO OLD?

Highly unlikely!  Age is not a barrier to training, unless we make it one.

We have several students in their 50s and 60s, who are smashing it, and the eldest student that we have had the pleasure of training in the group classes was 70 - and he was working well with the best of them.

Everything we teach is adaptible to the needs of the individual - you will always have an option that works for you!

IS THE TRAINING SAFE?

Krav maga self defence training is hands-on, and contact based, but tightly controlled and scaled according to individual participants.

While no physical activity can offer a complete guarantee of safety, injuries in training are actually very rare.

At Resilience we strive to ensure that all training - whilst progressive and realistic - is also safe and achievable for everyone involved.  We believe in training smart.

We want our members to keep out of harm's way both in AND out of training!

WHO WILL I BE TRAINING WITH?

You will be training with a diverse group of other like-minded people who care about improving their personal safety, in a friendly and supportive. as well as judgement and ego-free environment.

Our members are polite, helpful and sensible, and together we are working on the same mission of learning and training self defence, while improving ourselves and one another.

We are really lucky to be blessed with a f**king awesome group of people!
We do not tolerate or train with assholes!

DOES KRAV MAGA WORK?

Absolutely - krav maga works!

Being able to avoid, de-escalate or prevent physical or verbal conflict is never guaranteed as there are many factors that dictate success (and indeed differing levels of what 'success' might look like).

However, krav maga will give you a much higher chance of contending with physical or verbal conflict and generating a positive outcome!

Our members who have had to rely on their training have survived everything from assaults, car jacking, muggings, stabbings and even home invasions.

And that's not to mention how often members might be using their mental skills such as awareness, observation and analysis!

WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

For your taster sesh, you won't need any specific equipment other than gym clothes, a towel and a bottle of water.

After joining, you will need: groin protection (provided), MMA sparring gloves, boxing gloves, mouth guar, shin protection, and focus mitts.

Resilience is very happy to give recommendations on what to buy and where, to make it easier for you to get the best equipment for your training.

ARE YOU INCLUSIVE?

Yes we are!  Inclusivity is one of our club values 🙌

We welcome adults of all persuasions and are blessed with a diverse array of people training with us, which is fantastic.

We are proud to have helped members from minority or marginalised backgrounds, including those from the LGBTQ+ community and those with neurodivergence.

We have a comprehensive code of conduct and take a zero tolerance stance on any sort of discrimination, bullying or harassment.

It goes without saying that we completely oppose all forms of racism and xenophobia, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, fatphobia, ableism, and any other kind of bigotry.

We love our members very much and are proud to support them in any way we can!
